We are attributing this enchanting 1970s silk crepe couture dress to the master couturier Yves Saint Laurent as part of his Les Espagnoles et les Romantiques collection for Spring 1977.  The Musée Yves Saint Laurent stated about this collection that "the couturier sought inspiration in his imagined vision of Spain" - drawing his designs from his imagination rather than copying historical outfits. As one of the world’s premier dealers of haute couture, we have handled dozens of Yves Saint Laurent couture gowns and are confident in attributing this to the designer. The fabrics are couture-quality, and the zips and stitching are the same as those used by the Yves Saint Laurent couture house at this time. The workmanship across this gown is impeccable and almost entirely handsewn.

Composed of fine silk crepe, the dress has an elegant bohemian aesthetic with a gentle scoop neckline, balloon sleeves and a floor sweeping skirt. The cuffs, neckline and skirt seams are embellished with handmade teardrop-shaped lace trim to accentuate the romantic, feminine feel of the piece. The fabric at the reverse of the dress secured at the neck with hook and eye fastenings then falls open to the waist. There is a concealed zip fastening from the centre waist to line of the thigh. The skirt is lined in an additional layer of silk crepe. This lovely dress would be an excellent choice for formal events and would make a beautiful bridal gown.

Impeccable archival vintage excellent condition with no flaws of any note. It has no size or composition labels, but we believe it would suit sizes up to a US size 4-6, UK size 8-10 with a small waist. Our model is a UK 6-8 and 5ft 4in. (163cm) and this dress was a good fit on her. The fabric has no stretch.
